Approval and application context
The notes below help you assess the scope and conditions. The regulatory text and its exceptions govern your application.
Which level can I use for a new approval?
Use the 07 series for a new vehicle or engine type approval. The current text is 07 series · Supplement 3 · Corrigendum 1.
- Covers M1, M2, N1 and N2 vehicles above 2,610 kg reference mass, and all M3 and N3 vehicles.
- Engines in vehicles up to 2,840 kg reference mass approved under R83 or R154 do not need separate R49 approval.
Identify the fuel, vehicle category and approval scope, then prepare the applicable test evidence.
What is the latest level, and how long can I use it?
The current level is 07 series · Supplement 3 · Corrigendum 1, effective from 4 June 2026. This amendment sets no new expiry date for every existing approval.
- It covers Type 1A dual-fuel engines using hydrogen as the main fuel, gas analyzers and, where applicable, recorded on-board fuel-consumption data.
- Use current requirements for a new application and the transition provisions matching the level and purpose of an existing approval.
Use the current text for a new application; check acceptance conditions before using an older approval in another country.
Must I update my existing approval?
This amendment alone does not require renewal of every existing approval or test report. Notify the approval authority if you modify the approved engine or vehicle.
- The authority decides whether the change affects approval and whether further tests are needed.
- In-service vehicles are tested to the R49 level applicable at type approval; new test requirements do not apply retroactively as a blanket rule.
Compare the modifications with the approval and arrange an extension and further tests where required.
