Approval and application context
The notes below help you assess the scope and conditions. The regulatory text and its exceptions govern your application.
I am applying for approval for the first time. Which level can I use, and what is the deadline?
Use the 02 series · Supplement 6 for a new application. A country may still grant approval to a preceding series; confirm this route with the approval authority before using an older level.
- For sound approval of L1 category vehicles. Pure electric vehicles, including vehicles with auxiliary electric propulsion, are outside this regulation.
Confirm the approval series and test track standard with the approval authority.
What is the latest level, and until when can I use it?
The latest level is the 02 series · Supplement 6, in force from 10 January 2025. ISO 10844:2021 test tracks are accepted from that date. ISO 10844:2014 tracks also remain accepted during the five-year transition, until 10 January 2030.
- For sound approval of L1 category vehicles. Pure electric vehicles, including vehicles with auxiliary electric propulsion, are outside this regulation.
Plan new tests on an ISO 10844:2021 track; observe the transition period if using the 2014 standard.
Must I update my existing approval or test report? To which level and by when?
Extensions of existing approvals to preceding series must continue to be granted. Supplement 6 does not automatically invalidate all existing approvals. If testing on an ISO 10844:2014 track, plan for the 10 January 2030 transition date.
- For sound approval of L1 category vehicles. Pure electric vehicles, including vehicles with auxiliary electric propulsion, are outside this regulation.
Check your approval certificate and the track standard in your test report; identify the existing series in an extension application.
