UN ECE R41 — Motorcycle Noise · 06 / S1

You can prepare a new motorcycle to 06 series · Supplement 1. Applications under preceding series have not been closed entirely.

• R41 covers noise approval of category L3 motorcycles.
• Other countries need not accept preceding-series approvals first issued after 1 January 2029. This does not cancel all older approvals.

Choose the approval country and series; prepare a newly developed motorcycle to the current level.

The latest level is 06 series · Supplement 1, effective from 30 September 2026. It has no general expiry date.

• Supplement 1 clarifies which gear to use in production conformity testing when different weather conditions or rider mass prevent the same acceleration.
• Use the gear determined during type approval; the motorcycle must also meet the other noise requirements.

Update your noise test plan and production control instructions to paragraph 8.4.

Supplement 1 sets no common deadline to renew every existing approval. Use of a preceding-series approval depends on its first issue date and whether the motorcycle is affected by the changes.

• Preceding-series approvals first issued before 1 January 2029 must be accepted until 1 January 2030. The general acceptance obligation ends from that date.
• Approvals for vehicles or systems unaffected by the 06-series changes must still be accepted. Extensions of existing preceding-series approvals also continue.

Check the approval number, first issue date and vehicle changes together; a test report alone is not an approval.
