UN ECE R57 — Motorcycle Filament-Lamp Headlamps · 02

Normal new approvals under R57 ceased on 21 March 2002. Approvals under the 02 series continue for replacement headlamps fitted to vehicles in use.

• For filament-lamp headlamps with glass or plastic lenses for motorcycles and equivalent vehicles.

State in your replacement headlamp application that the lamps are intended for vehicles in use. Determine the applicable headlamp approval separately for a new vehicle project.

The latest level is the 02 series, in force from 12 September 2001. It can be used for replacement headlamp applications. Existing headlamp types meeting the 01 series can also receive approval extensions.

• For filament-lamp headlamps with glass or plastic lenses for motorcycles and equivalent vehicles.

Use the 02 series requirements for a replacement headlamp. Identify the existing approval number when requesting an extension.

MB approvals granted before 21 September 2001 and their later extensions remain valid indefinitely. Headlamps approved to preceding series may also be fitted as replacements on vehicles in use. A test report alone is not type approval.

Check the original issue date of your approval. If you modify the headlamp, establish with your approval authority whether an extension is required; a test report alone is not a type approval.
