Approval and application context

The notes below help you assess the scope and conditions. The regulatory text and its exceptions govern your application.

I am applying for approval for the first time. Which level can I use, and what is the deadline?

Since 21 March 2002, new headlamp types can no longer receive R76 approval. Replacement headlamps for vehicles in use may still be approved to the original or 01 series.

  • These answers cover moped headlamps emitting passing and driving beams. The end date for new approvals is six months after R113 entered into force on 21 September 2001.
  • This date does not automatically end use of existing headlamps or vehicle registration. The extension, installation and replacement conditions in paragraphs 14.2, 14.4, 14.6 and 14.7 apply separately.

Confirm the current approval route for a new headlamp type with your approval authority. State the replacement use clearly in a replacement-headlamp application.

What is the latest level, and until when can I use it?

The latest level is the 01 series, in force since 12 September 2001. It does not reopen approvals for new headlamp types; it remains available for replacement headlamps and extensions of existing approvals.

  • The 01 series did not require changes to the approval number. An unchanged number alone does not establish the approval scope or date.

Check the approval series, first issue date and intended replacement use.

Do I need to update my existing approval or test report? To which level and by when?

Approvals granted before 21 September 2001 and their later extensions remain valid indefinitely, including extensions of original-version approvals. For other approvals, check the replacement-headlamp conditions and the approval date separately.

Review the approval certificate together with its extensions. If you changed the product, confirm the required procedure with the approval authority.
