Approval and application context

The notes below help you assess the scope and conditions. The regulatory text and its exceptions govern your application.

What is the minimum level for a new type approval, and from when?

For an L1–L7 vehicle fitted with handlebars, use the 01 series · Supplement 1 requirements. If digital keys are used, also meet Annex 4 safety and documentation requirements.

  • This applies to L1–L7 vehicles with handlebars. Countries have not been obliged to accept preceding 00-series approvals since 1 September 2024.

Describe the locking system and, for digital keys, authorization, revocation and operating boundaries in your application.

What is the latest level, and how long can it be used?

The latest level is the 01 series · Supplement 1, effective from 4 June 2026. This date does not automatically invalidate all existing 01-series approvals.

  • Supplement 1 introduces Annex 4 requirements for digital keys. The two official paragraph 2.6 definitions are explained in the notice at the start of this version.

If you use electronic or digital keys, compare your approval scope with the new requirements.

Must I update my existing approval or test report? To which level, and by when?

Report changes affecting the approved vehicle type to the authority that granted approval. It may confirm that the approval remains adequate or require a further test report.

  • General mandatory acceptance of preceding 00-series approvals ended on 1 September 2024. The Supplement 1 entry date does not set one renewal deadline for all 01-series approvals.

Identify your approval series and changes to the locking system, then agree with the authority whether an extension is needed.
