Approval and application context
The notes below help you assess the scope and conditions. The regulatory text and its exceptions govern your application.
I am applying for approval for the first time. Which level can I use, and what is the deadline?
Use 06 series · Supplement 1 for your new application. Other countries are not required to accept approvals under earlier series first issued after 1 September 2024. An exception applies to unaffected vehicles.
- This applies to braking type approval for vehicles in categories L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5.
- If your vehicle is not affected by the changes introduced by the 06 series, an exception applies to approvals under earlier series.
- A country that starts applying this Regulation after the latest series entered into force is not required to accept approvals under earlier series.
Confirm with the approval authority in the country where you apply whether your vehicle qualifies for this exception.
Which is the latest level? How long can I use it?
The latest level is 06 series · Supplement 1, which entered into force on 10 January 2025. This amendment does not introduce a new common expiry date.
Do I need to update my existing approval? By when?
If your vehicle is affected by the 06-series changes, other countries are no longer required to accept its earlier-series approval from 1 September 2026. Approvals for unaffected vehicles remain accepted. Existing approvals can still be extended; these provisions do not automatically cancel all approvals or registrations.
